| Another Fat Family
Restaurant is California Fats located at
1015 Front Street, in Old
Sacramento. You enter at street
level and go down to the dining
room. There are a number of private
booths, and tables with seating for
groups up to ten. At the end of the
room is a three story waterfall, with
tables for four six and eight. Like
Frank Fat's they menu includes both
Chinese and American Specialties. On a
recent visit members of our party of four
had Prime Rib, Salmon and Chicken in a
Pot. The Chicken in a Pot is a
Chinese Specialty Dish with chicken and
vegetables served in a very hot, cast
iron pot along with steamed rice.
All of the servings are generous and the
food quality is exceptional. Now,
you are full and happy, but the waiter is
going to offer to show you the dessert
tray. If you flinch, he's got
you. On this particular evening
their was New York Cheese Cake, Triple
Chocolate Torte, A Fresh Berry Torte and
once again Frank's Famous Banana Cream
Pie. We ordered the Cheese Cake, the
Triple Chocolate Torte and four
forks to share these
creations. Now for the only
negative. With all of the great
atmosphere, fantastic food and
scrumptious desserts you would think that
the coffee would at least be decent, but
the coffee here is
crummy. We had the same
lousy coffee our last two times which
were months apart. In some places,
people say don't drink the water, at
California Fats Don't Drink the
Coffee. Ratings: Food A,
Service A, Ambience A, Coffee F
(Unfortunately a last impression),
Overall B+. Go there have a great
meal, take your friends, enjoy the
waterfall, just don't drink the coffee,
even F'ers Crystals are better. |
