| The Central Market is an
old fashioned, funky market that is owned by Kenny Wong
and is in the sleepy California Delta Town of Walnut
Grove It is approximately 35 miles south of Sacramento on
the Sacramento River in the heart of the Delta. The
market caters to locals, farm workers (spanish spoken
here) and tourists (boaters), It has everything
from essentials, to beer and sodas, bait, fresh meat
counter, and Deli. The Deli serves, some great
sandwiches, the Turkey on a roll is my favorite and it is
loaded. The other specialty of the store is Mexican
foods. If you like hot sauce, they have stuff that will
take the paint off the walls. If you haven't been
to the Delta, it is like going back in time. You
are only thiry minutes away from the city, but you are in
a different world, that runs at its own pace.
Besides the Central Market their is Dagmar's Landing a
full service marina, Al the Wops an infamous, Steak House
in Locke a mile up the river, and Guistis Italian
Restaurant behind Walnut Grove. Try Walnut Grove,
It's a great place to go kick back and relax. Walnut Grove is South of Sacramento
several miles off I-5. Take I-5 to Twin Cities Road
(about 20 minutes south of Sacramento) turn right and go
to the sacramento River. Turn left and follow the river
road about 3 miles to Walnut Grove. The Central
Market is ath the intersection of Hwy 160 and the Walnut
Grove Bridge, and is on Grand Island. Confusing,
maybe, but thats the charm of the area.
