| Crossings indeed has a
wonderful view of the river, a great menu
and an extensive wine list. The house
salad was made table-side and it was
beautifully presented. However, my early
dinner was quite ordinary. Having had quite a
lot of meat lately I ordered the Shrimp
scampi cooked in a garlic and lemon
sauce. Actually, I detected a hint of
ammonia with the first bite which meant
that the seafood has past its prime. The
portion was generous as there were 8 to 9
large prawns. They were, unfortunately,
previously frozen and short on shrimp
flavor and also a little over-cooked.
Our
daughter enjoyed her pasta dish done with
rock shrimp, dill, peppers and a cream
sauce. The other two members in our
family said very little about their
halibut.
On the
positive side the service was good and I
enjoyed the glass of Oregon Pinot Noir
even with my shrimps.

| The rapidly growing central
Oregon town of Bend has a couple of
excellent restaurants: Crossings
(at the Riverhouse Motel) is one of
them. Situated about thirty feet
from the Deschutes river, Crossings has
excellent food and an excellent wine
list...LaFite, LaTour, Haut Brion, Dom
Perignon...all at expectedly high prices
and a host of California and Oregon reds
and whites at commensurately lower
prices.
The menu
is excellent, featuring several daily
specials. I had the halibut with
Cajun blackened scallops and it was
perfect in every way. My companion
had rack of lamb which was equally
excellent.
Prices are
perhaps a tad higher than I would
expect...in the $22-$26 range and service
was a bit spotty, but the food is
excellent.
Food: A+.
Service: B. Attitude: A. Ambiance: A+.
Parking: A. Value: B.
