On my first visit on July 4th, the place was packed and stayed packed with a waiting line until after I had left.  No matter...on my second visit, the poor service was as slow as on July 4th and the place wasn't packed.  No excuses this time.

The waitstaff really didn't seem to have a clue as to what was going on, what they should do, what order to serve the meal nor when to bring the check.  That should have come as no surprise as the "please wait to be seated" sign elicited virtually no response from anyone either.  Our seating was carried out by...??? someone?!?!

I ordered their very excellent onion soup and a salad...they were both served together.  So...do I let the soup cool while I eat the salad?  Or do I eat the soup and let the salad get soggy?

The check was presented shortly after being served...no attempt whatsoever was made to determine if anyone at the table wanted some sorbet or a dessert...nor were we asked if we wanted anything else to eat or drink.  Not rude necessarily, but VERY, VERY haphazard service...and the check sat there for what seemed like hours with a credit card on top before anyone asked if they could take it.

My wife's quiche was unbelievably pedestrian...just some eggs and a crust of some sort.  The bread (this is a bakery as well, remember) had the wrong texture.

This place has ENORMOUS POTENTIAL...TO WHICH IT MOST CERTAINLY DOES NOT LIVE UP.

I suppose it's not fair to judge the service based on the HUGE crowds of July 4th, but what service there was appeared sporatic and inattentive.  We arrived for lunch at 11:45 am and the place was packed.  It was still packed with a waiting line when we left about 1 pm.

The menu is a bit skimpy, but the food is good, if not outstanding.  My dining companion had rather pedestrian ham and eggs with potatoes.  Nothing to get excited about there.

I had a bowl of better than average onion soup and a salad with turkey and artichoke hearts.  Perhaps a bit more than I would have expected to pay in other restaurants, but good, none the less. The French red wines by the glass were quite good.

The waitstaff and water servers were VERY busy and inattentive, but the cashier appeared to be French and was very congenial.
