| Considering all of the
mediocre meals I've had on the Oregon
coast, Bistro, rates a solid 10!
No, it isn't up to the quality of Genoa
or Paley's Place in Portland, but as a
"coast" restaurant, it's the
best I've had there. The menu is a tad
overpriced, but much of what I looked at
in Cannon Beach is the same. What
makes a piece of salmon or halibut worth
$18.95 in Cannon Beach, but only $15.95
in Portland?
Prawns for
my wife were excellent and served in a
not too heavy sauce of mushrooms and
herbs.
My Caesar
salad was a REAL Caesar salad, prepared
correctly, without the white gloppy stuff
many restaurants call Caesar
dressing. For my taste, they used a
bit too much mustard in the preparation
of the dressing, but that's just a
personal issue. This was a REAL
Caesar salad. Again, perhaps a bit
overpriced at $6.95 for its size, but it
too was excellent.
The soup
of the day was mushroom soup, originally
suggested as "mushroom soup,"
but by the time it arrived, it had
somehow become the slightly
pretentious: "Potage aux
champignon". Oh, well...it too
was excellent.
Personally,
I didn't love the homemade bread, but my
wife did. Just a matter of personal
taste.
