| I've eaten at most of these
restaurants over the past few years and
they're all quite similar...Good prices;
all you can eat; pretty tasty; relatively
healthy. Here's the drill:
After being seated, you go through a line
featuring raw everything: beef,
pork, turkey, lamb, chicken, shrimp (not
the highest quality), fish (also not the
highest quality) and a whole assortment
of vegetables...carrots, onions,
broccoli, bean sprouts, tomatoes,
spinach, peppers, etc. Take some of
what looks good to you, put it in one of
the two bowls you picked up at the head
of the line, move on to the
"sauces": ginger, garlic,
soy, cooking sherry, lime juice, hot oil,
sugar water, etc. After assimilating
all of this "stuff" in your two
bowls, you wait patiently while a cook
dumps it all out on a massive
"Mongolian Grill" and cooks it
in front of you.
Dinners
are $9.95 and feature a few "higher
ticket" items: salmon (also
low quality), mushrooms, a slightly
better grade of fish. Lunch is a
bit less.
The
various restaurants vary between
"brand new and sparkling" (the
San Rafael location on 122nd avenue) to
downright filthy (the Old Town location
at 3rd and Burnside). Some of the
chefs cook with water (San Rafael), some
with oil (Milwaukie and Old Town)...so
some of the food comes out pretty
healthy, but the stuff cooked in oil can
be a bit heavy.
Food: B-.
Attitude: Varies from A+ to unbelievably
curt. Ambiance: B-C. Parking: Can be
a problem at some locations, others are
in strip malls and have no problems
whatever. Service: Generally B-C.
Value: A.
