| Not too long ago,
Fratelli was the new darling of The Oregonian.
Recently, however, the restaurant was panned horribly by
the food critics for apparently not sticking to one
Italian region's style of cooking long enough and thus
not mastering that which they were trying to accomplish. Fratelli's does completely change
menus every 6-8 weeks. So what? The only
downside is that a favorite dish may disappear
forever. The new menu will probably be just as
delicious as the previous.
The salmon over pearl
onions and potatoes is excellent, as is the linguine with
wild mushrooms and pancetta, as is the "crazy
dough" with artichoke hearts. The bread is
baked daily on the premises and is excellent.
Most impressive, though is
the personnel...yes, they know how to describe the
various dishes and explain from which region of Italy
they come...but more than that...EVERY ONE OF THEM IS
VERY FRIENDLY AND GRACIOUS. They can actually carry
on a conversation and make you feel like they're glad
you're dining with them....right down to the guy who
fills your water glass. It was a wonderful
experience!
