| While The Oregonian voted
Paley's Place as the "1999 Restaurant of the
Year", Genoa has been virtually
"everyone's" favorite restaurant in Portland
for years. Geona has received "Restaurant of
the Year" in years past from The Oregonian, and
Gourmet magazine's readers voted it #1 in 1996 and 1998
and #2 in 1997. It has an incredibly consistent
kitchen and just spectacular food. Again, I have a problem saying
which restaurant is #1, thus relegating about a dozen or
so restaurants to lesser positions...restaurants which,
depending on mood and what I want to eat any given
evening, are certainly worthy of #1.
Genoa is simply
wonderful! It never fails to please. About
the ONLY thing you might have to be careful of is any
dietary restrictions you might have. Their menu is
a seven-course dinner which changes every two
weeks. I have encountered a couple of dishes with
too much cholesterol for my heart condition from time to
time, but a simple request when making reservations
solves the problem.
While Genoa's is not for
the budget conscious, I can't imagine ever being
disappointed by anything they serve. Their classic
Italian cooking is simply the best.
