| It's loud...it's
trendy...it's a place to be seen, but so
what?...it also costs too much. 35 years ago when
Jake's was Jake's, the menu contained
items I've never seen before nor
since...like "barbecued
crab". When I asked our
waitress if they ever brought it back as
a "special", she said they did
for the 100th anniversary...but then she
went on to describe a dish completely
unlike what their barbecued crab used to
be.
Jake's is
now owned by the McCormick and Schmick
folks and that means good fresh
seafood. It was good...it was
fresh...but it was also about $5-$6 more
than comparable restaurants in
Portland. $19.90 for a small piece
of "Port Hardy" salmon is just
a bit too much.
My dining
companion had seafood étouffée which he
proclaimed to be excellent.
The food
was good, the service efficient...but you
can get their equal for less money
elsewhere.
