| On Sept. 21, My husband and
I went, as a recommendation from friends
to a place called Paleys Place.
Great place! Its in down town
Portland. If you like the
atmosphere down there then I say
go. The People who work at Paleys
are so delightful. They treated us like
royalty. I had the lamb, which I
have never eaten before in my life and I
liked it! was very tender and
delicious. My husband had the
Halibut, He loved it. It
didn't stay on his plate for very
long. We got to sit out on
the deck which was very relaxing.
The atmosphere is very rich yet you can
go in jeans and a nice shirt. Plan
to spend about $80.00 for
two. We went for our 19th
wedding anniversary and it was
perfect! For a perfectly romantic
place to celebrate I give them an A. |

| The Oregonian voted Paley's
Place as the "1999 Restaurant of the
Year"! Who am I to
argue? I've only dined at Paley's a
couple of times and the food was
marvelous...as was the ambiance, the
service and everything about the
place. My only problem about
selecting a "Restaurant of the
Year" is determining which of a
dozen or so is deserving of the
honor. By placing Paley's at the
top, obviously Wildwood, Genoa, Higgins,
Caprial's, Laslow's, etc., must be placed
lower. I have a VERY hard time
making that distinction. All of
these restaurants are some of the best
Portland has to offer and at any given
time, perhaps one of them will have a
particular feature that is more
outstanding than the others...but
consistently better and #1? I'm
glad The Oregonian has to make the
choice, not I.
Paley's is
wonderful! You won't be
disappointed by anything. Entreés
are priced at $18-$24 and well worth it.
Food: A+.
Service: A+. Ambiance: A+ on a warm
summer evening, otherwise an A. Attitude:
A+ some of the friendliest folks around.
Parking: Can be a problem. Value:
A. Paley's is not for the budget
conscious.
