| Recommended to me by a
Vietnamese friend, Phó Hung was
excellent. But Portland has
excellent Vietnamese restaurants in
Saigon Kitchen and Misohapi
already...what sets Phó Hung
apart? Perhaps the freshness of the
ingredients...or perhaps the pictures on
the menu. Frankly, I like all three
restaurants, but Phó Hung had a few
specialties which seemed to set it
apart...especially the Phó
soup.
I had the
pork and shrimp bowl with noodles...quite
similar to the same dish at
Misohapi. Phó Hung's version was
about the same size...a little less money
and the shrimp were somewhat
smaller...but quite crispy. Perhaps
they could be described as:
"salted, crispy" shrimp.
Pictures
on the menu were indicative of what was
served and all seemed to be just a bit
fresher than those presented by the other
restaurants.
The
"salad rolls" were
excellent...but not necessarily better
than those at Misohapi. The
"peppers in oil" on the table,
were the best ever, however. Not
too oily... a little sweet and very
tasty.
