Sweet Basil, Portland, OR P312

A Top Pick in the Area

Situated in the old Lazlow's location is a recent Thai restaurant, Sweet Basil.  Good food, but pretty strange service for such a nice place.

The lady who seated us was quite nice.  Ditto the lady who brought our Visa paid check.  But our waitress was lacking personality and common manners.

When I asked if it would be possible to have Shrimp Larb Salad, the abrupt "NO", was a bit troublesome.  I would have thought it would have been no problem so say perhaps:  "I'm sorry, but we don't offer the Larb Salad with shrimp".  She NEVER came by to ask how our meals were and when she brought our check she just put it on the table...no "Thank you for coming", or "I hope you enjoyed your meal"...nothing.

The Maing Kum was excellent...as good as Typhoon offers, perhaps better.

My garlic stir-fried shrimp with mushrooms was excellent as well.  However, I did order it "exceptionally hot"...it was perhaps a tad spicy, but certainly not hot.

Oh well...the food is excellent and everyone else was nice.  I'll certainly return and hope for a different waitress.
