Three Doors Down has been
listed among Portland's top 20
restaurants since its opening a few years
ago...and I can certainly see why.
In size, decor and sheer noise level, it
is very similar to Le Bouchon...wonderful
food, friendly people and VERY, VERY
LOUD. It is truly difficult to
carry on a conversation at one's table
without straining. I guess
"the activity buzz"
is something for which a restaurant
should strive...but there has to be a
limit. Other than the noise, the
place is great.
Excellent
pugliese bread from the Pearl Bakery
served with white bean spread with a hint
of rosemary starts the meal.
The Caesar
Salad is excellent and even though they
use the entire Romaine lettuce leaf,
they're considerate enough to use the
shorter heart leafs so you don't have to
cut everything with a knife.
My
companion had a truly spectacular roast
pork loin with garlic mashed potatoes and
carmelized onions. The onions were
cooked with "Star" anise and
excellent.
I had
pasta with mussels, clams and
halibut...truly excellent.
Certainly
one of Portland's top 20 restaurants!
