Typhoon!, Portland, OR P9

Two Top Picks and the latest a B-

Grade: B-

Reasons:1) the cramped tables, with noise and lack of privacy and atmosphere impacted our enjoyment of the food. While waiting for a table, there is little room or care given to providing comfortable space either.

2) the food was good enough though but certainly not sufficient to get us to return unless we happened to be in the neighborhood and were hungry

Alternative grade:  D (for Political reasons)

A variable taste sensation.  Oh my, this was our first experience with Ty food and we were delighted!  Its in downtown on NW 23rd, Great street, Very busy but happening.  The food is very good and very fresh and the service is fantastic.  They are very friendly.  It is in a building that has two large Garage type doors that are all windows and when the weather is nice they open them.  Great atmosphere.

We went with some good friends on September 3rd , we ordered the King Noodle, the Pineapple shrimp and the Pork Dumplings.  All very delicious. You can order your food spicy or not.  It is fantastic.    I rate this place an A.

A marvelous Thai restaurant with a long menu and good prices.  The Oregonian says that at this location: "you must deal with cramped tables and service that does not have a degree in communications."  I've eaten there almost weekly and find this to not be the case at all.

The Tum Yum Goung soup is excellent as is either the chicken or shrimp larb salad.  The Pineapple Shrimp is perhaps the best dish on the menu, but some of the daily specials can really be excellent.  (There is a "special" pork dish not on the menu that you can receive with moderate frequency that is spectacular.)

If you're a tea drinker (I'm not) Typhoon! has a positively HUGE list of teas.

Portions tend to be on the small side for the price, but it's still my favorite Thai restaurant in Portland.

The newer location at 400 S. W. Broadway is located in the Imperial Hotel and is considerably larger.  Menus and prices are identical. Parking can be a problem at the Everett location depending on time of day.

Food: A. Service: A-. Value: B
