| We stopped in Coupeville in
search of some seafood for a late lunch
after a quick tour of Whidbey Island.
Coupeville is on the southern shore of
Penn Cove, famous for the mussels grown
in these waters. Great view of the cove was
available from any seat as glass
surrounded three sides of the dining
room. The people were friendly and the
food was generally good.
Their
oysters on the half-shell was a shock in
that they served drained pre-shucked
oysters on washed shells. This practice
may be imaginable in the heartland of
America. This is hardly appropriate for a
restaurant sitting on the saltwaters of
the great Pacific Northwest!
The
steamed Penn Cove mussels were excellent.
They were small, tender, plump and juicy.
The fairly mild seasoning used
complimented the mild mussels very well.
I ordered the large portion and ate all
of it!
Others in
our family had a crab cake sandwich, fish
& chips and a seafood chowder. No
strong comments came from them.
