restaurant but going away hungry... |

| It is pathetic that
we live were tons of fish come into our
ports and you have to search for the fish
(fish & chips, 3 pieces if you're
lucky), but tons of potatoes. I am
not sure weather my husband got the trout
or the perch. It was a $13 dollar
lunch (remember when they were only
$8). The potatoes for the $13 fish
entree would fill up the palm of your
hand and the fish portion was less than
that. I loved Chinook's
restaurant, but I can't recommend it to
my friends anymore. You
should at least get a decent
breakfast. How much does eggs and
cheese cost? When you walk in a
restaurant and walk out hungry, something
is wrong with that picture. Maybe
they should charge an extra dollar so you
can see the fish on your plate and the
potatoes.
When you have
"thin" people complain about
the food, and the prices that restaurants
are charging, and the tips they expect
you to give, you may as well go
to a fast food place where their
prices are even getting higher, but if
you order a "big whatever," you
get filled.

| Nothing special to get
excited about here...but the food is just
fine. As is typical with myriad
seafood restaurants in Seattle, unless
something is dreadfully wrong, the
seafood is fresh and excellent.
Such is the case with Chinook's.
The menu
features all the usual stuff...clam
chowder, Salmon, Halibut, etc...all
fresh.
The view
is on the canal linking Lake Union with
the Ballard Locks and the Puget
Sound...right at the terminal where
hundreds of fishing boats are
docked.
Prices are
about what you would expect, no bargains,
but nothing ridiculous either.
Perhaps in
its favor, it should be noted that
Chinook's is a bit off the beaten path
and not over run by tourists. It's
just a little tricky to find...just west
of the south end of the Ballard
Bridge...right above the
docks.

| Items ordered: Duet
(Combination of alder planked salmon and
halibut) Alder-planked halibut Critique: I've come
to expect great things from Chinook's,
and this visit was no exeption.
Expect incredibly fresh seafood, lively
atmosphere, friendly service, and a great
view of the fishing fleet moorage.
The alder-planked fish (whichever kind
they are doing) is quite good -
delicately flavored with the alder smoke
and cooked to a perfection rarely seen in
even the best seafood restaurants.
Vegetables are cooked nicely, flavors are
well balanced - nothing overpowers the
plate. Beer and wine selections are
reasonably varied and reasonably priced.
Chinook's
doesn't accept reservations, so expect a
15-30 minute wait. They have those
area pagers so feel free to walk about
Fisherman's Terminal.
Overall
impression: A great place to go - a
great place to take a date too!
Prices:
Entrees $15-$25 for most
