Alas, one of our favorite places has gone down hill! The place did not smell clean.

The combination dinner #1 was up to $6 per person. The shrimps in the shrimp salad rolls were sliced in half. The taste and appearance of the rolls were still very good. The Won Tons in the soup were noticebly smaller than I remembered.

The Satay and Pahd Thai like rice noodle dish were still very good. The fried rice was only fair.

Saigon Gourmet was still a bargain but this last experience left us less enthusiatic than before.

A Top Pick for Best Value

I admit that I would have probably never gone in there if I did not read the review posted on the front glass of the restaurant. The place was very plain and small. It is located in an unattractive part of town. If you can overlook these things you can have a great meal for a bargain.

The first two times we went we had their Combination Dinners for Two or More Persons. For example, their #1 combination had Won Ton Soup, Broiled Pork or Chicken Satay, Egg Roll or Shrimp Salad Roll (take the Salad Roll), Chicken Saigon Noodles and Pork Fried Rice. Would you believe that the going price was $5.50 per person? It was absolutely unbelieveable! The dishes were all tasty.

The last time we went two in our party went for the big combination #3! At $9.95 per person you were treated like a king. The Vietnamese Crepe w/Shrimp was something different and wonderful. The Special Fried Rice was a fried rice par excellence.

Try their Green Papaya w/Beef Jerky appetizer. The Shrimp Salad Roll (an item of choice included in all the combination dinners) was excellent. Their stir-fried noodles and soup noodles were great. I just don't think that you can have a bad meal there.

Folks, this is the kind of places we want to see more of on this web site! Yes, you should expect a great meal if you spent $50 a person. Here, we spent less than $50 for a family of five and we felt that we really splurged!
