The Salmon Cooker, Seattle, WA P88

A Top Pick for Best Value

This "fast food" restaurant has long been my favorite for great food at a reasonable price in Seattle.  Located on the waterfront where Pier 59 joins Alaskan Way, The Salmon Cooker appears little more than a typical touristy "fast food" joint with a Northwest flavor.  Appearances are deceiving.  For $5.95, you can get a large portion of either halibut (my favorite), salmon or cod smoked over alder wood.   And as is typical, any selection is served with an order of HUGE fries.

Due to the nature of the place, the food can be a hit or a little bit of a miss, depending upon what time of day you happen by.  Mornings around opening are best, because the fish is fresh and moist.  As the day progresses, you may find the fish a bit dried out from the constant alder smoke...but even then, it's still excellent.

There is "inside dining" to accommodate our rainy winters, but the food tastes best when taken out to the end of the pier and eaten while watching the ferries arrive and depart.

Food: A-. Service: cafeteria style. Attitude: A-Z, depending on? Parking: Can be a REAL problem depending on time of year and number of tourists in town. Ambiance: A+ if the weather is nice!  B if not. Value: A+.
