| Tofino is on the lonely
West Coast of Vancouver Island. It is literally at the
end of the world since the road terminates here. The
totally scenic trip requires five to six hours from the
mainland ferry terminal at Tsawwassen (near Vancouver).
The road between Port Alberni and the last leg of the
journey is quite bumpy and twisty. Take your time and you
can have a good time with the drive. The Middle Beach Lodge is a
splendid resort. The cluster of "family" cabins
and the main lodge are built on a rocky outcrop next to
the sea. The main lodge is wonderful building with
windows, decks and chairs everywhere. As you can imagine
the view from any window is spectacular.

A complimentary
Continental Breakfast is served in the lodge in the
mornings. Juices, cereals, fresh fruits, muffins, toast,
jams, tea and coffee are some of the offerings. Dinners
are served n the lodge several nights per week. We had an
outstand fresh boiled Dungeness crab dinner served with a
Spanish rice and salads Friday night. These were the best
crabs we've had and were on the par with the crabs we
caught and cooked ourselves. The crabs were served hot.
They were not salty and the meat firm and wonderfully
tasty.
The cabin (48) is very
roomy. It has a free-standing fire place, a refrigerator,
sink, two burner stove combination. Top quality cookware
as well as dishes and utensils are furnished. It has a
loft with two small beds, a small bedroom with a queen
bed and the couch is a hind-a-bed. All the beds are
comfortable with the exception of the hind-a-bed. The
bath room is large and the tub is huge. You can sit in
the tub and enjoy the view of the sea.
There are miles of
beaches, forests, rain forests, and protected water in
the area. Fishing, boating, hiking and sea kayaking are
some of the popular activities. Yet, nearly all the
chairs were taken at the lodge yesterday morning after
breakfast by people with a good book in their hands.
