| When you pay top money
for a meal you certainly should expect great food. How
about at the other end of the scale? Bargain hunters can
rejoice particularly if you enjoy Chinese food. The food
courts in the Richmond Public Market and Yaohan Centre
have over a dozen vendors serving authentic Chinese food
at unbelievably cheap prices. A typical combination would be a plate of
steamed rice covered with a choice of three main dish
items. How cheap is cheap? We paid $3.75 today (at the
Wonder Wok at the Richmond Public Market) for a plate of
delicious food that should have been too large for most
people. Did I mention that the $3.75 was Canadian? At
todays exchange of $1.47 Canadian per US dollar, the meal
was $2.55! Price included taxes. Did I mention that it
came with a bowl of soup and tea? Now, that was a
BARGAIN! Frankly, I don't see how they can stay in
business selling at these prices.
There were many vendors
and items to choose from. Some vendors specialized in
foods from particular regions of China or Far East. Many
places may only post the menu in Chinese but don't let
that bother you. Look at all their offerings first then
pick the place that appealed best to you. When in doubt,
watch and see where the locals favor.
Many of the vendors have a
full menu for dishes cooked to order posted behind the
counter. There are several other malls in the area with
similar food courts. You simply can't go wrong eating in
Richmond!
