| While not Alain Ducasse, La
Cote d'Azur has been for nearly 30 years
now, my favorite restaurant...EVER! What's not to
like? The food is excellent!
The prices aren't astronomical! The
selection is excellent! The owner,
Eddie Cordes, is a charming and superb
host.
Did I
mention that the VERY BEST CAESAR SALADS
I'VE EVER EATEN have been from La Cote
d'Azur? If you're a Caesar Salad
aficionado, then have one of
theirs. Just enough garlic...NO
WHITE GLOPPY STUFF!!!!! No HUGE
slabs of romaine....just right, just
perfect, just wonderful!
When
oysters are in season, Eddie has some
wonderful concoctions in which to dip
them.
Their card
lists Le Canard au Pernod, Le Steak au
Poivre Vert as
"specialties"...try
them...they're excellent as well.
By the
way, Canadian wine lists usually leave
quite a bit to be desired...not La Cote
d'Azur. Theirs is the best I've
found in western Canada.
For many
years, La Cote d'Azur occupied a house on
Robson Street in Vancouver. With
the area now receiving thousands of Hong
Kong Chinese, "Robson Strasse"
became a tax nightmare, so Eddie moved to
Harrison Hot Springs in 1994.
Robson's
loss...Harrison's gain!
