Les Marronniers, Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, Burgundy region, France P6

Chateauneuf-en-Auxois is located in the Burgundy region, just a little north of Beaune.

This restaurant was recommended by Rick Steves from "Europe Through the Back Door" in his "Best of France 1998" book.  He suggested having lunch there if they were serving Coq-au-vin.  They were and we did.  What a delightful meal!

We arrived in the early afternoon and asked the apparent owner/chef (who was sitting by his fire place with his feet up and his cat draped over his shoulder):  Avez-vous coq-au-vin aujourd'hui?  He seemed a bit bothered, but replied:  "Oui".  After a short wait the best coq-au-vin we've ever had was delivered to our table.  Nothing fancy, just a very tasty meal.  For two, about $21 USD including a glass of wine.

Give the coq-au-vin an A+ as the best we had in Burgundy.
